More than a garden.
Growing Pontiac came together when a group of Pontiac gardeners met in a church basement to try and solve a groundhog problem! While our non-profit status was approved in May of 2019, Growing Pontiac was founded in 2015 by Jill Robinson, a member of the Oakland County Treasurer’s Office who was dedicated to providing opportunities for local agricultural land use of county-owned lots in the City of Pontiac. Creative land use by Pontiac residents is at the root of our work.
Our Projects
Building a just, equitable food system, and cities prepared to meet the challenges of climate change, demands a working knowledge of systemic racism, classism, ecology, sustainability, and community-centered values.
Core Values
Every decision we make is shaped by a clear sense of purpose. Our journey has been anything but ordinary. Through every step, we've focused on staying true to our values and making space for thoughtful, lasting work. At Growing Pontiac, we work to elevate these 5 things:
-
Our FREE Club keeps our gardeners of all skill levels connected and thriving!
Club Members get exclusive access to
soil and compost in the spring
free seeds
first dibs on Organic veggie, flower and herb transplants
free garden classes
volunteer opportunities
and more!
-
We are proud to integrate urban conservation work into gardening. With support from the Oakland County Conservation District, we distribute hundreds of native pollinator plants every summer and offer education and outreach to support native habitats.
-
This collaborative farm project with our friends at Centro Multicultural La Familia is expanding at Chamberlain and N Saginaw!
Home to cut flowers, herbs, indigenous foods and culturally exciting crops rooted in the Latine community, we welcome you to join us for weekly work days in 2026!
-
BEES ARE BACK: a generous donation has rekindled our beekeeping program for 2026.
Stay tuned for community inspection and learning days at our hives.
-
Our partners at Pontiac Public Library are helping us make tens of thousands of packets of garden seeds available beginning in February 2026.
Would you like to volunteer with us to keep it stocked for the community?

1
Learning: We learn together from our ancestors, our community, our teachers, and our own experience. Listening makes learning possible.
2
Service: Growing food together sustainably is an act of service to our bodies, our neighborhood, and the land. We help our neighbors find their power in the food system.
3
Wonder: We value curiosity and observe the natural world and what plants can teach us. We appreciate surprises and the power of joy + beauty.
4
Abundance: We all deserve abundance, wellness, rest, joy and safety, and organize our work on this assumption. Abundance is all around us and does not belong to one group or class.
5
Justice: Access to safe and healthy food, water and land is a human right. Just food systems rest on sovereignty, power and equitable access.
Our Team & Board | We are a 100% volunteer-run organization.
